Best Wedding Venues in Montreal and Ottawa

If you’re currently searching for wedding venues in Montreal or Ottawa, here’s a curated list of locations that consistently provide a great experience for both couples and guests.

For most newly engaged couples, one of the first big decisions after choosing a date is selecting the venue. Nothing happens without somewhere for it to happen, and that choice shapes how the entire day unfolds. Some couples take the traditional route of using one location (often a church or other place of worship) for the ceremony and a separate venue for the reception, while others prefer a single space that can host everything in one place.

There's always the ever-popular option of the destination wedding.  Who wouldn't want to get married on a beach in Mexico or a cliff in Ireland?  There's even a luxury hotel at the top of a mountain in Peru. It's right outside the entrance gate to Machu Picchu and hosts weddings!

Staying Local

For those of us who want to stay local, there are two options.  The first: have separate wedding venues for the ceremony and reception, and probably separate locations for getting ready and for portraits as well.

The second option: pick one venue that can host the entire day from start to finish.  I prefer the second option for one simple reason: it's far less stressful!

One of the things that adds stress to a wedding day is the time crunch: the bride and groom each have to make sure they're ready by a specific time to get into the car and arrive at the church on time.  Then after the ceremony they have to get all their family into the car and off to the park for the family portrait session.

Finally, they have to hop in the car one last time in order to make it to the hall for the reception.  If the various locations are in different parts of the city, it's even worse because of traffic and construction detours.

All-in-One Wedding Venues For Low-Stress Planning

You could do things that way, or you could simply pick a nice wedding venue that can greet you when you arrive in the morning to get ready and host the entire day, right up to the end of your reception.  Once you're there, that's it.  No more running around and getting people into and out of cars to drive all over the city.  Just relax and enjoy the day!

Planning your wedding at an all-in-one wedding can have another benefit: you might end up spending a little less on your photographer and videographer. They won’t need to take so much travel time into account, which means you’ll get the same coverage from them in less time.

Here are some of the best wedding venues in and around Montreal and Ottawa that would be a great choice for your low-stress wedding.  Be sure to check back often as I'll be adding more wedding venue videos.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I choose one venue for both the ceremony and reception?

It’s recommended. In my experience, the weddings that are the most enjoyable and memorable are the ones where everything happens at one location. If nothing else, they’re less stressful because there’s no running around to multiple locations.

How far from the city can guests reasonably travel?

Up to an hour from the city is certainly not too much of a burden for most people. In some cases, even 2 hours can be done. Remember, this is an event that people will know about many months in advance and they’ll have plenty of time to plan. Some venues even have the option for guests to stay overnight.

What’s the advantage of an all-in-one venue?

Weddings at all-in-one venues tend to be less stressful because you don’t have to worry about constantly hopping in the car to make it to the next location on time. Less stress means you can enjoy your wedding more.

Bonus: your photographer and videographer won’t have to take as much travel time into account, so you can get the same coverage for less because you’ll need less time!

Are there good countryside venues near Montreal and Ottawa?

Definitely! Au Vieux Moulin near Montreal and Beantown Ranch near Ottawa are the first 2 that come to mind, but there are many to choose from.

Do these venues work for smaller weddings?

They’re great for smaller weddings! In fact, that’s what some of them specialize in.
